What is a Forward Send
Forward Send is the more widely used term. I use 'trains passing' more than I use the actual term. The fastest way to show your dog where to go is by moving in the new direction. North/South lines are common on our courses, and the Forward Send will give your dog a reason TO collect to be efficient on the turn, because they will know where they are going early. Moving in the new direction can be conveyed simply be your weight shift.
-
Will adding a Forward Send confuse my dog?
Not at all. It will just be another tool you can choose to select in certain situations on course. The advantages are not taking your eyes off your dog (like a spin requires) and not twisting your knees as your are starting a new line.
-
Can a young dog/puppy learn this skill?
Yes! It is a study in weight transfer for the handler and the dog. The opposite directions of dog and handler give the dog a reason to adjust stride/turn tight.
-
How much room do I need to teach this?
Access to a sloped hill for one exercise, room for a cone/one jump and 15-20' distance between them. The sequences will require approx 30x50. They are the final part of the course, and give opportunity to practice Forward Sends.
-
How long do I have access to the course?
Access to Forward Sends includes prompt replies to your questions and video on all lessons for 30 days.
